Mobility analysis

The municipality of Vlaardingen is developing rapidly and mobility plays a crucial role in this. To keep traffic flowing safely and smoothly and keep the city attractive, there was a need for an integrated, future-proof mobility approach.

Our team of mobility advisors and data experts supported the municipality in making the current situation clear, so that targeted policy choices can be made. We mapped the Vlaardingen traffic system using a combination of available municipal data, our own analysis tools and external datasets:

Infrastructuur / Infrastructure: Infrastructure: roads and cycle paths have been assessed for function, design and road safety. Risk scores have been assigned based on national guidelines and our own assessment methodology.

Verkeersstromen / Traffic flows: Traffic flows: we analyzed motor vehicles with TomTom data and bicycle and pedestrian flows with our own DQ Flows model, which provided insight into busy patterns and peak hours.

Verkeersgedrag / Traffic behaviour: Traffic behaviour: speed and accidents have been analyzed to map risky locations and improper behaviour.

The results were presented in dynamic maps and valued during interactive work sessions with the municipality. This made bottlenecks in the areas of safety, accessibility and livability visible and we could determine priorities together. All results have been worked out in visuals and an advisory report with recommendations to keep Vlaardingen safe, accessible and livable.
