On behalf of the municipality of Alkmaar, DOK Data & Road Safety carried out a comprehensive road safety analysis as a basis for a new approach. The starting point was the established Urban Mobility Vision 2040, in which road safety is seen as a crucial precondition.

DOK mapped road safety across the municipality. Specifically, risk-based insights were combined with objective data and perception data. In addition, general mobility trends, spatial development and demographics were examined from a road safety perspective. Among other things, young people, the elderly and two-wheelers emerged as notable risk groups. Busy 50 km/h roads without cycle facilities also proved to be high-risk.

The results were translated into concrete recommendations for each city district and linked to the five leading principles of the mobility vision. The final report thus forms the basis for a new road safety implementation programme in the municipality of Alkmaar.
